Sustainability

As a cable car company, we also focus on sustainability and a resource-conserving approach to the environment, which is why we are constantly endeavouring to develop further in this area.

At the end of 2021, the Grünberg cable car began installing a photovoltaic system. Over 90 solar modules were installed on the roofs of the cable car stations.

The PV systems on the Grünberg in Gmunden generate a total of around 37,000 kWh per year, with the self-consumption rate for both systems at over 80 %. Thanks to grid-parallel operation, the surplus energy generated is fed into the interconnected grid. This has not only a sustainable but also an economic benefit.

PV system expansion

In May 2023, the photovoltaic system was expanded and the roof of the entrance to the summer toboggan run was also equipped with it. A total of 90 modules were installed. With a further 38 kilowatt peak, the total with the cable car stations on the Grünberg is now 70 kilowatt peak!

Rupert Schiefer personally checks out the successful expansion on the roof of the summer toboggan run and tests the power generation directly on his mobile phone.

Statement by Managing Director Rupert Schiefer:

"Step by step, we will quickly implement unused areas for photovoltaic systems and continue to pursue this approach at all of our locations," explains Rupert Schiefer, Managing Director of Bergbahnen Dachstein Salzkammergut.
