Even a cable car with state-of-the-art technology needs to be prepared for an emergency. In order to be prepared for the coming season, Gmunden Mountain Rescue carried out a rescue exercise at the Grünberg cable car on 20 March 2024.
The Gmunden Mountain Rescue team practised evacuating from the large-capacity cabins of the Grünberg cable car in the event of an emergency. In the first meeting of the upcoming training season, around 25 men trained the use of the necessary equipment and the procedures for a rescue in the area of the valley station at a height of around 16 metres.
In an evacuation case, the rescuers have to bring a maximum of 2 x 60 people to the ground from a height of up to 80 metres above wooded and built-up terrain. In addition to the route to the gondola, the rescuer must of course also consider the interaction with the ground crew and the route back. The main focus of this rescue exercise was travelling on a rope using a rope access device and using the abseiling equipment.
The Bergbahnen Dachstein Salzkammergut would like to thank the volunteers for their willingness, without which many things would not be possible in this day and age.
