On 6 January, the Grünberg becomes the setting for one of the most fascinating winter customs in the Salzkammergut - the Glöcklerlauf. From 05:00 pm, the bell ringers of the Gmunden volunteer fire brigade parade through the festively illuminated Grünberg with their artistically designed bell ringers' caps and bring their best wishes for a happy new year.
The elaborate caps, which are traditionally handmade, glow in the dark and symbolise the victory of light over the darkness of winter. Accompanied by the muffled sound of bells and festive songs, a magical atmosphere is created that casts a spell over everyone. The custom has a long tradition and is an impressive testimony to the cultural heritage and lively community in the Salzkammergut.
The light of the Glöcklerkappen is said to drive away evil spirits and welcome the good ones - a symbolic message that carries hope, confidence and solidarity into the cold season.
Enjoy this special spectacle amidst the nature of the Grünberg, be enchanted by the unique atmosphere and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of regional customs. An event that not only lights up your eyes, but also touches your heart.
Come along and be part of this unforgettable evening that combines tradition, magic and the beauty of winter.
